2017 started off very promisingly from a birding perspective, just the way how 2016 ended for me. In my last post, i finally got to see
a pair of Mangrove Pitta in Ubin on 29 December. This time around, at the start of a brand new birding year, i manage to see for the first time a Black Hornbill and Mountain Imperial Pigeon at Ubin. Another added bonus was sightings of Cinnamon-Headed Pigeons.
The sighting of the Black Hornbill was easy enough as i walked passed the National Parks Volunteer Building, a large bird flew overhead and landed on a fig tree behind the building. It fed for only 5 minutes before taking off.

The bird that got the birding community excited (other than the Eastern Imperial Eagle) was the sighting of the Mountain Imperial Pigeon. There were many bird watchers and photographers present to document this bird.

The last time i saw the
Cinnamon-headed Pigeon was in Tampines Eco Green on February 2016 and that was only the male pigeon. This time around i manage to see both the male and female. The female doesn't have the cinnamon color on its head, but the feet with yellowish feathers are a giveaway (at least to me)

I am not a twitcher and have not intention to be one, as reaching the highest count of unique birds is to me a numbers game which is not my cup of tea. However the opportunity to see this birds in Ubin which is close to my house was something not to be missed.
