Chan Cheng Wan (Bukit Brown)

Sometimes when you are exploring Bukit Brown, you will come across tombs with the date of death not listed. The first instinct is to say that there is no one buried at the plot, However, this may not be a good indicator. An example is the tomb of Chan Cheng Wan's wife (Madam Lee Swee Choo) located at Block 2 Division H plot 446 which has no death date written or etch on it leading to a perception that she is not buried next to the husband.

Mr. Chan Cheng Wan passed away at age of 64 on September 9, 1927 at No 531 Geylang Road. He is survived by her widow, 4 sons; Chan Siew Jin, Chan Siew Ghee, Chan Siew Lay and Chan Siew Tee, 4 daughters-in-laws, 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law; Lee Lim Chuan and 12 grandchildren.

Mrs. Chan Cheng Wan nee Madam Lee Swee Choo passed away at the age of 84 on February 24, 1948. She is survived by 4 sons; Chan Siew Jin, Chan Siew Ghee, Chan Siew Lay and Chan Siew Tee, 4 daughters-in-laws, 2 daughters; Mrs Lee Lim Chuan and Mrs Ee Kong Guan, several grand and great grandchildren.  The residence given was No. 74 Cairnhill Road.

On why her stone was not updated, remains a mystery to me for now.
